This speech explores the threat modeling of backplanes as attack surfaces and offers mitigation strategies. In distributed cloud applications, backplane systems are common and frequently facilitate cross-system functions. They are often deemed secure. However, when they are breached, the outcome could be severe. Based on threat modeling of complex distributed systems, this presentation uses categorical examples to clarify key nuances in securing backplanes.
